Question : PRIVATE TOILET SCHEME



(a) whether the Government proposes to launch the schemes of constructing private toilets in the houses of poor living in rural areas with the objective of preventing them from relieving in the open;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the funds earmarked for construction of a toilet under this scheme;

(d) whether provision of additional amount of rupees ten thousand is likely to be made for the construction of a toilet there under in view of price rice; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the time by which this scheme is likely to be implemented?

(a): The Government of India is already administering the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas with the main goal of eradicating the practice of open defecation and ensuring clean environment.

(b): Does not arise.

(c): TSC is a demand driven programme. The incentive under TSC is provided to the BPL households on completion of and use of toilet by BPL household in recognition of its achievement. At present, the total incentive is Rs.2200.00 (Rs. 2700 in case of hilly and difficult areas) including Rs.1500.00 (Rs. 2000 in case of hilly and difficult areas) as central share and Rs.700.00 as State share.
