Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF MINORITY AFFAIRS (SHRI MUKHTAR ABBAS NAQVI)

(a)&(b): Central Waqf Council (CWC) provides marginal assistance as concessional loans to Waqf Boards for development and prote- ction of urban Waqf properties. There is a lack of enthusiasm in the State Waqf Boards to avail this assistance. Government has in 2013 established National Waqf Development Corporation Ltd. (NAWADCO) to assist the State/UT Waqf Boards and Mutawallis to develop waqf properties to enhance their revenues.

Year Amount (Rs. in lakh)
2012-13 288.00 2013-14 268.00 2014-15 274.55 2015-16 -
(c): The year wise grants-in-aid released to Central Waqf Council during last three years and the current year under the scheme Grants-in-Aid to Waqfs - Development of Urban Waqf Properties is as below:-

The Council has implemented 230 projects across the country in 16 States, out of which 155 projects have been completed.

(d): As many waqf properties have the potential of getting high revenues through appropriate development models, the Government has established NAWADCO to assist the State/UT Waqf Boards and Mutawallis to do so. Through NAWADCO, Government will help in unlocking the revenue earning capacity of the waqf properties.
