Question : High Speed Trains

(a) the names of railway routes identified for running high speed trains in the coming year in the country;

(b) whether a viability study on the high speed of trains has already been started between Chennai and Hyderabad sector and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government contemplating enhancing the speed of all long distance trains; and

(d) if so, the details thereof ?

(a) : Six corridors on Diamond Quadrilateral connecting metropolitan cities and growth centres of the country (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai & Kolkata) have been identified for feasibility studies for high speed rail connectivity viz: (i) Delhi-Mumbai, (ii) Mumbai-Chennai, (iii) Chennai-Kolkata, (iv) Kolkata-Delhi and both diagonals i.e. (v) Delhi-Chennai and (vi) Mumbai-Kolkata routes.

(b) : No, Madam.

(c) : Speeding-up of trains across Indian Railways is a continuous process.
