Question : TELEVISION CONTENT CODE



(a) whether the Government had constituted a Committee for reviewing the Programme and Advertising Code (Content Code) prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act.

(b) if so, whether the aforestated Committee has submitted its report;

(c) if so, the main recommendations made by the Committee in relation to television contents;

(d) the action taken by the government thereon; and

(e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government for effective enforcement of the Content Code?

(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. The Committee constituted for reviewing the Programme and Advertising Codes (Content Code) prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, has submitted its report and made recommendations in the form of draft ‘Self-regulation Guidelines for the broadcasting sector (2008)’. The report of the Committee is available on the Ministry’s website. www.mib.gov.in under the heading ‘Code and Guidelines’ sub-heading ‘Self-Regulation Guidelines (2008)’.

(d) & (e) The Government is in the process of holding consultations with all concerned stakeholders to arrive at broad consensus on the recommendations of the Committee. The process of consultation is going on.
