Question : Utilization of Defence Land

(a) the defence land made available for people friendly projects like construction of metros etc. in cities like Bengaluru and Pune;

(b) whether the Government has assessed the extent of availability of defence land in major cities and its probable use for the common man, if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Ministry is contemplating to handover existing land within city limits to the state
Governments or local corporations for infrastructure projects in exchange of alternative land and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether the Government intends to form a subcommittee headed by an officer from the Armed Forces to look into such matters and if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 149 FOR ANSWER ON 11.02.2022 REGARDING ‘UTILIZATION OF DEFENCE LAND’;

(a) Since 2016, approximately 33.74 acres of defence land have been given for metro projects at various locations across the country including Bengaluru and Pune.

(b) & (c): The Ministry makes available defence land to Central Government Departments / State Governments / Local Municipal bodies / PSUs for public infrastructure projects in terms of MoD policy on transfer of defence land for public infrastructure projects issued vide letter No. 11015/2/2012/D(Lands) dated 02.02.2016 on the subject. As and when a request is made by requisitioning authority, the same is considered in terms of aforesaid policy.
