Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR.JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) No Sir. Safety is accorded utmost attention in all aspects of nuclear power viz. siting, design, construction, commissioning and operation. The operation of nuclear power plants is carried out by highly trained and licensed personnel, strictly in line with the approved procedures and technical specifications. There is a robust regulatory mechanism in place and periodic safety reviews are carried out both by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). Further, safety is not static and improvements/ upgrades are effected in nuclear power plants based on evolving global standards, events and operating experience feedback.

(b) No Sir.

(c) Does not arise in view of (b) above.
