Question : DAIRY DEVELOPMENT



(a) the layout proposed by the Government for the development of dairy in the country;

(b) whether the Government has received proposals from Jharkhand and Gujarat Governments under the Intensive Dairy Development Scheme;

(c) if so, the action taken by the Government thereon; and

(d) the measures being taken by the Government to achieve the objectives and targets set under the scheme?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE & FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan)

(a) Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India, aims to: increase productivity of milch animal and thereby increase milk production through scientific breeding and feeding as well as provide milk producers with greater access to the organized milk market and enhance handling, preserving and processing capacities for the development of dairy in the country

(b)&(c) Four projects in Jharkhand and one project in Gujarat were approved under Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP)with total outlay of Rs.1238.70 lakh & Rs.679.95 lakh respectively. Statement indicating project-wise outlay, year of approval, districts covered, and status of implementation in Jharkhand and Gujarat State is annexed.

(d) IDDP scheme has been discontinued, and it’s objectives subsumed under a new scheme “National Programme for Buffalo Breeding and Dairy Development” (NPBBDD) in the 12th Plan. Only spill over activities of projects already approved under IDDP are being financed in the current financial year.
