Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS

(SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI)

(a): In pursuance of the Government’s vision of “Housing for All” by 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) [PMAY(U)] for providing assistance to States/Union Territories (UTs) including Karnataka in addressing the housing requirements of the people belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas. Under PMAY (U), as on 08.07.2019, a total of 17,113 projects involving Central assistance of Rs. 1,30,293.00 crore for construction of 83,68,861 houses have been approved. Of the sanctioned houses, construction of 26,13,799 houses has been completed so far.

In the State of Karnataka, a total of 1,792 projects involving central assistance of Rs. 9223.00 crore have been sanctioned for construction of 5,82,469 houses of which 1,50,726 houses have been completed so far.

(b): The district-wise details of houses built in Karnataka under PMAY (U) during the last three years are given at Annexure.

(c): During the last three years, central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U)to the State Government of Karnataka was Rs. 8,237.00 crore of which Rs. 2,622 crore has been released.

(d) & (e): Under PMAY (U), Government of India does not fix any target for construction of houses in a State/UT. Houses under PMAY (U) are sanctioned for eligible beneficiaries based on the project proposals submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs with due approval of the State/UT Governments. States/UTs are required to undertake a demand assessment and validate the same to determine the actual requirement of houses to be built under PMAY (U) during the period of “Housing for All by 2022” Mission.
