MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SHRI JAYSINGRAO GAIKWAD PATIL)

(a) to (b): The primary responsibility for the development of the regional languages lies with the State Governments concerned. Keeping this in view, the State Government may declare a regional language spoken by its people as year of that language. Central Government implements a number of schemes for the promotion of Indian Languages. National Book Trust, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development is bringing out a special edition of ‘Thirukural’ during the year 2000. The University Grants Commission also provides assistance to Tamil University teachers for undertaking research in Tamil.
