Question : Ambulance for Trauma Care Centres on NHs

(a) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to purchase ambulances for the use of trauma care centres located on the national highways; and
(b) the measures taken/being taken by the Government to install CCTV cameras at accident-prone areas and road junctions to find out causes of road accidents?

(a) The National Highways Authority of India has deployed 550 ambulances at toll plazas on the completed corridor of National Highways. Out of 550 ambulances, 171 ambulances have been upgraded to Basic Life Support as per AIS-125.

(b) The Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019 recently passed by the Parliament provides for electronic monitoring and enforcement of road safety. NHAI is presently implementing ATMS (Advance Traffic Management System) on EPE (Eastern Peripheral Expressway) with installation of CCTV cameras and control systems to monitor speed violations, lane discipline etc.

Provision of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is envisaged in high traffic density corridors and CCTVs have been installed on a few projects such as Meerut-Bulandshahar and Delhi-Meerut Expressway
