Question : NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL INSURANCE SCHEME



(a) whether the Government have a proposal to introduce insurance for all the crops in the country;

(b) whether the Government of Karnataka has requested to extend the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme to more crops; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

(a): No Sir, however, National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS), covers all the food crops, Oilseeds and all the annual commercial/horticultural crops for which yield data for sufficient number of years is available.

(b)&(c): No Sir, however, Government of Karnataka requested, sometime back, for inclusion of horticultural crops like onion and potato. These crops are in the category of annual commercial/ horticultural crops, which have already been covered under NAIS.
