Question : PROCUREMENT OF MAIZE BY FCI IN KARNATAKA



(a) whether FCI has not paid the amount due to the farmers on account of maize procured form them in Karnataka;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the total quantity of maize procured in the State by FCI;

(c) whether the Union Government have issued directions to FCI to make payments to the farmers at the earliest;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)& (b): The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has made full payments to the farmers to the extent of procurement made by FCI. The FCI has also made payment for the stocks procured and passed on by the Karnataka State Food & Civil Supplies Corporation to FCI upto 28.2.2001.

A total amount of Rs.109.07 crore has been paid to the farmers. Out of this, Rs. 58.42 crore has been paid by FCI and Rs.52.65 crore has been paid by Karnataka State Food & Civil Supplies Corporation.

As on 31.3.2001, the FCI and the Karnataka State Food & Civil Supplies Corporation, a sub-agent of FCI, procured a quantity of 3.79 lakh MTs of maize in Karnataka.

(c),(d)&(e): FCI is releasing payments to the State Government on the submission of Bills regarding release of the stocks to the tenderers.
