Question : BRTS Projects

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state :

(a) the details of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) proposals received, cleared and lying pending during the last three years and the current year, city and State-wise;

(b) the status of BRTS projects in Andhra Pradesh, project-wise and the estimated cost of each of the projects;

(c) the financial commitment made by the Union Government for these projects and the funds utilised so far on each project along with the time by which these projects are likely to be completed; and

(d) the manner in which the Government proposes to go ahead with BRTS in Andhra Pradesh as learning bitter lessons for BRTS in Delhi?

STATEMENT
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *88 FOR 02.03.2016 REGARDING BRTS Projects

(a) Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) was an eligible category project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). The details of projects received and cleared during the last three years are at Annexure-I. JnNURM has ended in 31st march, 2014 and no proposal has been received or lying pending.
BRTS is an eligible category project under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). No proposal has been received or cleared under this category under AMRUT.

(b)&(c) The details regarding the two BRTS projects in Andhra Pradesh, and their status are at Annexure-II.

(d) The complete eligible share of government of India in the form of four installments for both the BRTS projects in Andhra Pradesh have been released. State government has to ensure operation and maintenance of the system. Government proposes to support BRTS projects as one of the solutions for urban mobility subject to the priority established for drinking water, sanitation and other sectors under AMRUT Mission Guidelines.
