Question : Missing Children

(a) whether the Government has taken note of instances of missing children being recovered by the police although their relatives have not been traced during the last three years;

(b) if so, the number of such children in the last three years, State-wise; and

(c) the proposal formulated by the Government regarding the upbringing and education of such children?

(a) & (b) The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes statistical data on crimes in its publication “Crime in India”. The published reports are available till the year 2020. The specific information asked for is not maintained by NCRB. However, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has operationalized a TrackChild portal which facilitates the matching of ‘missing’ children reported in police station with those ‘found’ children who are residing in Child Care Institutions.

(c) As per available information, the Ministry of Women & Child Development implements a centrally sponsored Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme through States/Union Territories for supporting the children in distress conditions through, inter-alia, Child Care Institutions.
