Question : HONOUR KILLING



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to amend the Indian Penal Code to make honour killing a separate crime and provide deterrent punishment for the culprits;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has received any recommendations from any quarters for such an amendment; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d): Suggestions have been received from various quarters to amend the existing laws or to enact a separate law in order to tackle honour killings. A Group of Ministers (GoM) has been constituted to deliberate on the issue of honour killings. The GoM has not yet completed its deliberations.
