Question : Setting up of Bio-Gas Plants

(a) the present status of the bio-gas plants proposed to be set up across the country, State/UT-wise;

(b) the details of the funds sanctioned, allocated and utilized for this purpose during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise including West Bengal;

(c) the quantum of bio-gas produced from different bio-degradable wastes including kitchen waste in these bio-gas plants during the above said period;

(d) whether the Government is planning to set up some more bio-gas plants in some of the States across the country or the Government has received any proposal from some of the States in this regard during the said period; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government thereon, State-wise?

(a): Under the National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP), State/UT-wise details of targets fixed for setting up of Biogas plants during the current year are given in Annexure-I.
(b): Under the NBMMP, the funds are allocated, sanctioned, and released to States as per the norms of the scheme and annual physical targets. The State/UT-wise details of funds sanctioned, allocated and utilized during the last three years and the current year are given in Annexure –II.
(c): Installed capacity of biogas plants in cubic meters of biogas per day during the last three years and the current year is given in Annexure-III. The estimated quantity of biogas produced comes to about 479.5 million cubic meters from the biogas plants installed during the previous three years and the current year (up to 31.12.2017).

(d) & (e): The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy seeks proposals from the State designated Agencies under the National Biogas and Manure Management Programme for allocation of annual physical targets in the beginning of the year. Based on the previous performance of the States and availability of the budget under the scheme, the annual targets are fixed and communicated to the States. The State-wise and year-wise details of the targets allocated for the previous three years and the current year are given in Annexure-IV.
