Question : SHALLOW TUBEWELL SCHEME



(a) whether the Government is implementing National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) financed shallow tubewell scheme in Bihar;

(b) if so, since when this scheme is under operation and extent to which it has been financed by NABARD and the expenditure incurred thereon; and

(c) the targets fixed and success achieved in this regard?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b)&(c) The scheme is under operation since 2001-02. A total amount of Rs. 414.78 crore has been disbursed as loans by banks for 2,23,900 tubewell sets upto the end of October, 2004 against the target of 3,77,111 tubewell sets upto 2004-05. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has so far refinanced Rs. 90.001 crore to participating banks under this programme and the expenditure incurred on subsidy released so far to banks is Rs. 199.796 crore.
