Question : TSUNAMI RELIEF TO FISHERMEN



(a) the details of financial assistance, loan and grant-in-aid provided to the fishermen who lost their fishing implements in Tsunami, State, UTs-wise;

(a) to (c) In view of the losses suffered by the fishing community, the Government announced a special package named as `Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package` to inter alia provide assistance for immediate relief and response, revival of fishery and agriculture sectors. Out of the total package of Rs. 3644.05 crore, an amount of Rs. 1223.06 crore (33.56 %) has been provided for the fishery sector, which includes components of subsidy and loans through commercial banks, and for fishing harbours. The subsidy and loan are meant for enabling fishermen to replace/ repair damaged boats/ nets, catamarans and other fishing implements. The assistance to fishermen in the form of subsidy and loans is being released through commercial banks.
