(b): The Government has taken development measures to increase the cashew production in the various States under National Horticulture Mission and in North-Eastern States under Technology Mission. The New plantation development and replanting old senile and uneconomical cashew gardens with high yielding varieties are the major activities of the States for increasing production.

The Cashew Export Promotion Council (CEPC) undertakes various export promotion programmes like participation in International food fairs, International Conventions & Seminars, sponsoring trade delegations, market surveys, disseminating trade enquiries, market information, publishing statistics & journals, organizing Buyer Seller Meets and implementing schemes for assisting exporters to improve quality of cashew kernels exported etc. under the MDA, MAI, ASIDE and Five Year Plan Schemes of the G.O.I.

There has been a drop in exports of 4.22% in volume and an increase of 31% in Rupee terms during 2008-09 as compared to 2007-08. Due to the prevailing global recession, the exports during the first seven months (April – October) during the current year recorded a decrease of 7.6% in quantity and 9.3% in value compared to the same period during 2008-09.
