Question : INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES AT AIRPORTS



(a) whether the Government proposes to provide better infrastructure facilities at the airports in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; state-wise; and

(c) the funds to be invested on this proposal and the benefits likely to be accrued by the tourism?

(a) Yes, Sir. Measures have been initiated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) to deal with the anticipated expansion of air traffic in the country by augmenting the infrastructure at all the airports under its management, like increasing the capacity of terminal buildings,constructing more parking stands for aircraft and providing longer runways subject to availability of land to be provided by State Government. Besides, new Greenfield airports are being established at Hyderabad and Bangalore,through Public-Private Partnership route.

(b) Airports selected for development in the 11th Five Year Plan, are Ajmer, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Mount Abu and Udaipur in Rajasthan; Chandigarh in Chandigarh Union Territory; Dehradun, Pantnagar in Uttarakhand; New Delhi in Delhi(through Joint Venture route); Jammu, Srinagar and Leh in Jammu & Kashmir; Khajuraho, Bhopal and Indore in Madhya Pradesh; Kullu in Himachal Pradesh; Lucknow and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh; Ludhiana in Punjab; Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda in Orissa; Kolkata, Cooch Behar and Malda in West Bengal; Muzaffarpur and Gaya in Bihar; Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar; Ranchi in Jharkhand; Agartala in Tripura; Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Silchar in Assam; Barapani (Shillong) in Meghalaya; Imphal in Manipur; Itanagar and Passighat in Arunachal Pradesh; Pakyong in Sikkim; Kohima in Nagaland; Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Vadodara in Gujarat; Akola, Aurangabad, Baramati, Gondia, Mumbai (through Joint Venture route), Juhu, Nagpur (through Joint Venture route) and Pune in Maharashtra; Belgaum, Hassan, Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore in Karnataka; Goa in Goa; Agatti in Lakshadweep Islands, Calicut and Trivandrum in Kerala; Coimbatore, Madurai, Chennai, Trichy and Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu; Cudappah, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada,Vishakhapatnam and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh; and Pondicherry in Pondicherry respectively.

(c) AAI proposes to invest Rs.6443 crores for non-metro airports and Rs.5679 crores for metro airports, during the 11th Plan period.
