Question : TIGER PROJECTS



(a) the current status of implementation of project Tiger in the country along with the coverage of area thereunder, location and State-wise;

(b) the details of grants released and utilised under the project during each of the last three years and the current year, project and State-wise; and

(c) the achievements made so far along wth the fresh initiatives proposed to be taken for the protection of tigers in the country?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR)

(a) Project Tiger is being implemented in 48 tiger reserves in 18 States of the country, encompassing an area of 69751.64 sq.km. of core/critical tiger habitat and buffer/peripheral areas (2.12% of country’s geographical area).

(b) The details of grants released and utilised under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Project Tiger during each of the last three years and the current year, reserve- wise and State-wise, are at Annexure-I (a) and I (b) respectively.

(c) Several milestone initiatives taken by the Government of India for protection of tigers and other wild animals, interalia, including fresh initiatives undertaken, are at Annexure-II.
