(a) A pilot project for Satellite Imaging for Rail Navigation (SIMRAN) project has been successfully completed in coordination with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.

(b) ` 3.5 crore was the expenditure incurred on this pilot project. Railways have sanctioned a work namely Realtime Train Information System (RTIS) at an estimated cost of ` 110 crores in 2011-12 to provide further proliferation.
