Question : SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER CARDS



(a) whether the Government have announced to provide Social Security Number Cards to 50 lakh workers;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the benefits likely to be accrued to the workers therefrom; and

(d) the time by which this work is likely to be undertaken?

MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND PARLIAMENTARY AFFAIRS (SHRI SANTOSH GANGWAR)

(a): Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation intends to allot National Social Security Number (NSSN) to all members of Employees’ Provident Fund as part of the modernization project – “Re-inventing EPF India”.

(b): The NSSN would be a 14 digit number based on various parameters like name, date of birth, father’s name etc and will be launched in six Pilot centers and a few select locations in the first phase.

(c): The NSSN will form the basis of delivering enhanced and quality services to the members;


(i) Members will have access to their individual accounts at any place and at any time;

(ii) The turn around time between receipt of a claim and issue of cheque to a subscriber will be two to three days;

(iii) The members would have a single account which will not be affected on change of employment by the member;

(iv) The NSSN will facilitate identification of the members in all their transactions with the organization, without the intervention of employers, enabling better and faster service delivery.


(d): The work of allotment is scheduled to commence during the current quarter.
