THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)
(a): As per the information received from the Government of Punjab, the Department of Sports and Youth Services of the Government of Punjab is organizing 5th World Cup Kabaddi in Punjab from 6-20 December 2014. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has given its approval from sports angle to the Government of Punjab for organizing 5th World Cup Kabaddi subject to the following terms and conditions:
i. 5th World Cup Kabaddi 2014 will be organized as per the rules of the Game of Kabaddi.
ii. Effective steps will be taken for anti-doping during the event, if necessary, in coordination with National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
iii. The organizers will obtain the clearances from Political angle and Security angle from the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs respectively.
iv. Organizers of 5th World Cup Kabaddi 2014 may ensure that the said event is organized with the sole objective of promotion of Kabaddi Sports.
v. 5th World Cup Kabaddi 2014 will not be in nature of official World Cup for Kabaddi.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has given its ‘no objection’ in principle from security angle to the Government of Punjab for organizing the above-said event. The Ministry of External Affairs has also conveyed its ‘no objection’ from political angle to the Government of Punjab.
(b): Government of Punjab has informed that all preparations for conduct of the World Cup Kabaddi 2014 are progressing satisfactorily as per schedule.
(c): Government of Punjab has informed that all the participating teams/officials would be provided hotel accommodation, food, local transportation and security. Transportation of the teams from Delhi/Amritsar airport to the places of stay and back along with adequate security will also be ensured.
(d): No, Madam.
(e): Primary responsibility for promotion of Kabaddi in the country is that of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), the National Sports Federation (NSF) for the discipline of Kabaddi recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The Ministry and Sports Authority of India supplement the efforts of the AKFI in promotion of Kabaddi in the country under their schemes such as Scheme of Assistance to NSFs, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, Scheme of Special Awards to winners of medals in international sports events and their coaches, Scheme of Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons, National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) Scheme, SAI Training Center (STC) Scheme, Special Area Games (SAG) Scheme, Army Boys Sports Companies (ASBC) Scheme and Centres of Excellence (COE) Scheme.
