CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION
(DR. AKHILESH PRASAD SINGH)
(a): State-wise and year-wise details of allocation and offtake of foodgrains
(rice and wheat), sugar and kerosene are at Annex-A, B & C and D & E respectively.
(b)&(c): The details of requests received from the States and the action taken by the
Government is summarised below:
(i) FOODGRAINS: Requests have been received from 27 States/UTs for an increase in the allocation of foodgrains under Targetted Public Distribution System (TPDS). Keeping in view the position of stock in the Central Pool, requests received from the States have been considered and adhoc allocations of wheat have been made as given in the Statement annexed (Annexe-F).
(ii) LEVY SUGAR: The State of Andhra Pradesh requested to increase the monthly quota of levy sugar. The same was not agreed to. Request received from Government of Kerala to allocate sugar for the festival of Onam was agreed to and an additional allocation of 4400 tons was made under festival quota as a one time measure, over and above the normal levy sugar quota.
(iii) KEROSENE: During the current year the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and West Bengal requested for increasing the SKO allocation.
The Government has decided `in principle` that subsidy on PDS Kerosene may be
restricted to BPL families only. On account of this, these requests received from various
States could not be acceded to.
