Question : Welfare Schemes for Women over 75 years


(a) whether the Government has any welfare schemes particularly for women above 75 years, if so, the details thereof and if not, whether the Government proposes to introduce such schemes and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government proposes to make it mandatory for local police stations or any other authority to check on a fortnightly basis about the well-being and safety of such aged women, if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government is considering to provide free medical facilities to such aged women including supply of medicines, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment implements Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens (IPSrC) (a sub-scheme of National Action Plan for Senior Citizens), under which it provides grants in aid for running and maintenance of, inter alia, Senior Citizens Homes (Old Age Homes) for 50 elderly Women. The main objective of this Scheme is to improve the quality of life of the Senior Citizens by providing basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and entertainment opportunities. ‘Krishna Kutir’ a Home for Widows has been set up by Ministry of Women & Child Development in Vrindavan, UP with a capacity of 1000 inmates to provide widows a safe and secure place of stay, health services, nutritious food, legal and counselling services irrespective of age limit
