Question : Housing for Economically Weaker Sections

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION be pleased to state:

(a) whether the State Governments or private developers are complying with the advisory of the Union Government to reserve certain percentage of the housing units for economically weaker sections and low income groups;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether certain States/private developers have registered their protest in this regard;

(d) if so, the State-wise details thereof; and

(e) the action taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): Government has launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) {PMAY (U)} Mission to provide central assistance to the implementing agencies through States and UTs for providing houses to urban poor.

Affordable Housing in Partnership with Public and Private sector is a component under the PMAY(U) mission. Under the mission guidelines, an affordable housing project can be a mix of houses for different categories but it will be eligible for central assistance, if at least 35% of the houses in the project are for EWS category and a single project has at least 250 houses. Central Assistance at the rate of Rs.1.5 Lakh per EWS house is provided for all EWS houses in such projects.

Details of projects accepted under the AHP vertical of PMAY (U) are Annexed.

(c) to (e): So far, no State / private developer has registered any protest to the Ministry on earmarking of 35% houses for EWS category in the affordable housing projects under the PMAY(U) mission.
