Question : UN-ORGANISED LABOUR



(a) whether any efforts have been made by the Government to bring awareness amongst the labourers of unorganised sector regarding the provisions made under Labour Laws;

(b) if so, details of the last three years; and

(c) the success achieved by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d): Government of India have set up the Central Board for Workers Education, an autonomous body for implementing workers education scheme and creating awareness of various labour laws amongst workers as also their rights and obligations so as to enable them to participate effectively in the socio-economic development of the country. During the last three years the Board through its 49 Regional Centres, conducted 742 camps for unorganised workers wherein 28,903 workers participated. The Board has been organising camps for unorganised workers since 1979 and till 1999-2000, 7048 camps were organised wherein 275344 workers participated.
