Question : Updation of Government Websites

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY to be pleased to state:

(a) whether Government has any mechanism for updation and monitoring of the information uploaded on the websites of the Government and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has taken cognizance of the fact that various Government departments are not updating their websites with the information regarding latest developments in their respective departments:
(c) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and
(d) whether the Government is taking corrective measures to provide latest information to the people on these websites and if so, the details thereof

Answer given by the minister

a): Yes, Sir. Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India has formulated the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) available at https://web.guidelines.gov.in. GIGW have been adopted by Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) and included in Central Secretariat Manual of Office Procedure. Each Government Department is responsible for monitoring the information in their respective websites and ensure that the contents are current and updated as per the ‘Content Review Policy’ to be framed for their respective website as outlined in GIGW guidelines.

(b) and (c): No, Sir. However, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) reviews the GIGW compliance periodically with Ministries/Departments.

(d): Yes, Sir. As a part of GlGW guidelines it has been mandated that all Ministries and Departments nominate a Web Information Manager (WIM). It is the responsibility of Web Information Manager to ensure that the content provided on the website is up-to-date and is reviewed as per the "Content Review Policy”.
