Question : PAN INDIA NATIONAL AMBULANCE CODE



(a) whether the Government has takennote of the fact that private agencies/persons are running ambulances in thecountry without having basic facilities/emergency care facilities for patients;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Governmentthereto and the action taken in this regard;

(c) whether the Government proposesto introduce a Pan-India NationalAmbulance Code; and

(d) if so, the details and present statusthereof and the time by which the same islikely to be introduced and implementedthroughout the country?

(a) to (d) Yes, Madam. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways had constituted an expert committee in February 2012 to formulate ‘National Ambulance Code’ along with detailed specifications for various types of ambulances for the country.The Expert Committee has submitted a draft National Ambulance Code for approval of the Ministry. The Ministry is in the process of notifying it under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.
