Question : STRIKE BY RRB EMPLOYEES



(a) whether the AN India Regional Rural Bank oyees Association observed strike on the 15th NOVEmber, 2000;

(b) if so. the main demands of the employees of banks; and (c) the reaction of the Union Government to these mds?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF MCE (SHRI BALASAHEB VfKHE PATIL) :

(a) Yes, Sir.

(A) The main demands of the employees of mal Rural Banks were as follows:-

1) Immediate promotion from workman in the RRB as per promotion Rules;

i) Formation of National Rural Bank of India (NRBI) by amalgamation of 196 RRBs;

ii) Lifting ban on recruitment in RRBs; and v) Promotion Rules as per sponsor bank.

B) The reaction of the Government of India to these nds is as below:-

The promotion of Officers and other employees are being made in accordance with RRBs (Appointment and Promotion of Officers and other employees) Rutes.1998.

i) After considering a number of alternative models, including formation of National Rural Bank of India (NR8!) it was decided to revamp Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) on a Stand

ii)alone` basis by way of infusion of additional capital for cleansing of balance sheets of selected RRBs rather than creating NRBI.

(iii) The matter is under examination in the light of the report of the Working Group on Manpower Planning in RRBs.

(iv) Promotion in RRBs and Sponsor Banks are governed by different set of Rules. As such, promotion in RRBs cannot be governed by promotion Rules of Sponsor Banks.
