(a) whether the Ministry is planning to set up fisheries university and research centres across the country;
(b) if so, the details of the present status of the Government’s stand and also the steps being taken by the Ministry in this regard;
(c) whether there is any proposal for setting up of new fisheries university/college in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Kanyakumari; and
(d) if so, the details thereof along with the details of the courses undertaken at the college/university?

(a)& (b) Setting up of fisheries universities and research centres does not fall under the ambit of Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandryand Dairying. From the inputs received from Department of Agricultural Research and Education/ICAR, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, there is no proposal presently under consideration by the Government of India to set up fisheries university/college and research centres across the country.
(c) & (d) Government of Tamil Nadu have informed that a Fisheries University(viz.Dr. J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University) had already been established with headquartersat Nagapattinamwith 7 Colleges/Institutesat various places of Tamil Nadu State. Further, Government of Tamil Nadu have also informed that there is no new proposal to establish a new fisheries university/college in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Kanyakumari District.
