Question : UPPER KRISHNA PROJECT



(a) the date on which techno-economic clearance has been accorded to the second phase of Upper Krishna Project;

(b) the initial cost and the revised cost of the project due to delay in completion;

(c) the progress made so far on the project; and

(d) the time by which the project is likely to be completed ?

(a) & (b) The Upper Krishna Project Stage-I was accorded investment clearance in 1963 with an estimated cost of Rs.58.20 crore. The first and second revised estimates for Rs.283.65 crore and Rs.1214.97 crore were approved by the Planning Commission in 1978 and 1990 respectively. The latest estimated cost of the project is Rs.5435.90 crore. The Upper Krishna Stage-II was accorded investment clearance on 13th December, 2000 with estimated cost of Rs.2358.86 crore as per 1998-1999 price level.


(c) The Phase-I and II of Upper Krishna Stage-I has been completed. The Phase III of Stage-I and Stage-II of Upper Krishna Project are scheduled to be completed by 2003-2004.


(d) The time for completion of project is linked to the provision of adequate budgetary outlays by the State Government.
