Question : Maritime India Summit-2016

(a) whether it is a fact that most of the private shipyards in the country are likely to get a large number of new orders from the Government;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the extent to which these shipyards are likely to be revived as a result thereof;
(c) whether it is a fact that a large number of Memorandum of Understandings worth several crore were signed at the Maritime India Summit-2016; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b):With the operationalisation of the (i) Financial Assistance policy for shipyards; (ii) Revision of Domestic Eligibility criteria providing inter-alia Right of First Refusal by Indian shipyards for procurement and repair of vessels by the Govt. Departments and agencies including CPSUs, (iii) grant of infrastructure status to standalone shipyards, (iv) exemption of duties on inputs used in shipbuilding and shiprepair, The Indian shipyards are likely to secure fresh orders.

(c)&(d):A total of 141 Business Agreements including MoUs, Letters of Intent and Concession Agreements were signed during the Maritime India Summit-2016. These Agreements entail investments of approximately Rs.83,000 crore. These MoUs/Agreements relate to different segments of maritime sector such as port modernization, new port development, inland waterways, hinterland connectivity & multimodal logistics, ship building, ship repair, green initiatives in ports, maritime education and training etc.
