Question : RADICALISATION OF YOUTH



(a) whether the Government is actively considering setting up a committee to prevent radicalisation of youth in the country particularly in the State of Jammu & Kashmir;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the various Indian security establishments and intelligence agencies are worried over the reports of educated Indians joining Jihadis in Iraq and Syria; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) & (b): The Government is seized of the issue of radicalisation of youth in the country which have been reported from various sources and it contemplate to address the same appropriately.

(c) to (d): As per report, four youths from Kalyan area of District Thane in Maharashtra, travelled to Iraq, under the guise of a Pilgrimage tour. All of them, along with a Group of pilgrims, left from Mumbai International Airport, on their valid passports. Out of the above four, Fahaad had left a letter for his parents that he was going for Allah’s work. These youths are reported to be native of the same locality in Thane, Maharashtra and all of them are educated. They left Mumbai for Baghdad via Abu Dhabi. After reaching Baghdad, they all were with the travel group for the holy visit for first few days and then reportedly got separated from the group. It has been reported that they took a taxi for Mosul which is situated about 400 Kms away from Baghdad. Detailed enquiries are still being conducted by Maharastra Police into the disappearance of these boys on their visit to Iraq. No other incident has however come to the notice of the Govt. The Government however is keeping watch on these developments and will react appropriately.
