Question : Ethanol Production Crops

(a) whether the Government gives subsidy directly to the farmers cultivating Ethanol Production crops and if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons therefor;

(b) whether the Government has any plan to give subsidy directly to the farmers to encourage cultivating Ethanol production crops;

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reason therefor; and

(d) whether the Government is aware of production cost of each litre of Ethanol in the country, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): No, sir. In order to ensure the food security of the country, the Government through Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) is implementing National Food Security Mission (NFSM) in 28 States and 2 UTs of the country for increasing the production and productivity of rice, wheat, pulses, coarse/nutri cereals, commercial crops (cotton, jute and sugarcane), oilseeds and oilpalm. NFSM is a crop production oriented scheme being implemented to ensure food security of the country and not with the objective of production of ethanol.

(d): The ethanol in the country is being produced from different feedstocks including sugarcane and foodgrains. The production cost of ethanol depends upon number of factors viz feed-stock, efficiency of the plant, cost of other inputs etc. The procurement price of ethanol for current Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2020-21 has been fixed as under:
