Question : MODERNISATION OF HANDLOOM UNITS



(a) whether the Government propose to modernise the handloom units in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the amount allocated for modernisation of handloom units in 2000-2001 to each State and Rajasthan in particular; and

(d) the number of handloom units likely to be modernised with the allocated amount?

(a)&(b): There is no specific scheme under operation for modernisation of handloom units in the country. However, this issue is addressed through a number of developmental and welfare schemes implemented by the Government of India through the State Governments. The schemes include Decentralised Training Programmes, Development of Exportable Products, their marketing and Project package etc.

(c)&(d): State-wise funds are not allocated under these schemes. However, assistance to the States is sanctioned by the Govt. of India and funds are released on the basis of receipt of viable proposals from the State Governments.
