YOGA & NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY
(SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)
(a) & (b): As public health is a State subject, initiating various schemes for promotion of Yoga and Naturopathy treatment in the country comes under the purview of respective State/UT Governments. The Ministry of AYUSH does not maintain data on such activities of State/UT governments.

However, the Ministry of AYUSH takes up various activities for promotion of Yoga and Naturopathy treatment through its three autonomous bodies namely Morarji Desai National Institute of YOGA (MDNIY), New Delhi, Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi and National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune.

At present CCRYN, New Delhi is running the following schemes:

i. Collaborative Research Centres (CRC)
ii. Establishment of Yoga and Naturopathy OPDs/ Wellness Centres
iii. Center for Mind Body Medicine

Funds are not allocated for particular schemes. The funds are allocated to CCRYN. The expenditure is met out of the budget of the Council. The funds allocated to CCRYN during the last five years is as under:

Rs. in lakhs
Head 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 2020-21
Allocated (Plan) 4300.00 5609.00 3774.00 6327.00 4085

(c): There is no such proposal currently with this Ministry to set up any Yoga University in the country. However, the Ministry has applied for deemed University status for MDNIY.

(d): Presently there is no regulation for the Yoga and Naturopathy education at Central level.

Further, National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005 recommended Yoga as an integral part of Health and Physical Education. Health and Physical Education is a compulsory subject from Class I to Class X and optional from Class XI to XII. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has already developed integrated syllabi on Health and Physical Education from Class I to Class X.
