Question : DEVELOPMENT OF WATER WAYS AND ROADS IN MYANMAR



(a) whether the Government has entered into an agreement with the Government of Myanmar to develop water-ways and roads in Burma;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the funds likely to be invested thereon; and

(c) the benefits that are likely to accrue to the country as a result thereof?

(a), (b) & (c) Border Roads Organisation had upgraded the Tamu-Kalewa-Kalemyo road (160 km) in Myanmar across Manipur from 1997-2001 at a cost of Rs. 120 crores. Government of India are presently responsible for upkeep of the TKK road in Myanmar. In addition, the Kaladan multi-modal transit transport project in Myanmar envisages connectivity between Indian ports and Sittwe Port in Myanmar, and road and inland waterway links from Sittwe to India.
