(a) whether certain suggestions have been received for repeal of article 370 providing `special status` to the State of Jammu and Kashmir for its integration in the country in the true sense to bring lasting peace in the region;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto along with the action taken thereon; and

(c) the time by which the said objective is likely to be achieved?

(a) to (c): The interlocutors appointed by the government of India on 13.10.2010 to hold a sustained dialogue with all sections of the people in Jammu & Kashmir, in their final report submitted to the Hon’ble Home Minister on 12.10.2011, inter-alia, recommended that the word ‘Temporary’ be deleted from the heading of Article 370 as well as from the title of Part XXI of the Constitution and be replaced with the word ‘special’ at it has been used for other States under Article 371. Consequent to uploading of the report on website of this Ministry on 24th May, 2012 a few representations were received from some Organisatons requesting to dismiss the report with immediate effect. It was also suggested that the article 370 should be rendered ineffective with immediate effect. No proposal, however, is under consideration for repeal of Article 370.
