Question : REHABILITATION OF PERSONS CURED OF LEPROSY



(a) the number of NGOs involved in the rehabilitation of Persons cured of Leprosy in the country;

(b) whether the Government has agreed to enhance the financial assistance being provided to Persons who are cured of Leprosy; and

(c) if so, the details thereof alongwith the time-frame fixed for implementation of the decision and the details of region-wise variations in the matter, if any?

(a), (b)&(c) A statement is laid on the table of the House.

Statement to be laid on the table of the House in answer to Lok Sabha Starred Question No.73 for 16-08-2007 by Shri Manoranjan Bhakta, Member of Parliament, regarding `Rehabilitation of Persons Cured of Leprosy`.

(a) to (c) Under the Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS), financial assistance to the NGOs is provided for various projects for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities including Persons cured of Leprosy, Presently, 17 NGOs are being supported for this purpose. Financial assistance to the projects under the scheme is provided on the basis of requirements projected by the organisations, subject to admissibility as per prescribed norms. Therefore, enhancement of financial assistance for a particular project depends on the requirement in a project and its admissibility.
