(a) whether there has been an increase in the incidents of encroachment in the reserved forest areas of the country and if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and
(b) whether the Government has fixed any accountability in this regard and if so, the details thereof?

(a) As per the reports received from States / UTs government the details of the area under encroachment in the forest areas are given in Annexure – I.
(b) Protection and management of forest areas is primarily the responsibility of respective State / UT Governments. Action against any offence including encroachment is taken under the relevant provisions of various Acts and Rules.
