(a) the amount of rebate granted by Railways for transportation
of imported coal during 1998-99 and 1999-2000 so far;
(b) whether the Government have a proposal to withdraw the
rebate;
(c) if so, the date from which the rebate is likely to
be withdrawn;
(d) whether the Government have made any assessment of impact on
domestic market; and
(e) if so, the details thereof ?

(a) Rebate of Rs.34.30 Lakh and Rs.129.55 Lakh
on Southern Railway and Rs.92 Lakh and Rs.341
Lakh on Western Railway was granted on Imported
Coal traffic during 1998-99 and 1999-2000
respectively.
(b)& (c) Yes, Sir. Ministry of Railways have
already issued instruction to withdraw this
concession w.e.f. 1.4.2000.
(d)&(e) Strategy was directed towards attracting
additional traffic to the rail mode.
