Question : SYNTHETIC COLOUR IN JUICES

(a) whether the content of the synthetic colour in the sealed tinned juice is more than the permitted level;

(b) if so, the number of samples collected from the market during each of the last three years till date and the number of samples out of them not found upto the mark; and

(c) the action taken by Union Government against the manufacturers to stop production of such products?

(a) to (c) As per the information received, out of 1010 samples of packed fruit juice collected by the State/UTs authorities during the years 1997,1998 and 1999, five samples were found to be adulterated with artificial colours. Prosecution proceedings have been launched in all the cases.
