(a) the number of Anganwadi Kendras functioning in the country State-wise especially in Bihar as on date;
(b) whether it is a fact that some State Governments have sought to sanction more Anganwadi Kendras to cover increasing number of children;
(c) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(d) whether the Union Government have taken any steps to bring about improvement in the condition of Anganwadi workers in the country;
(e) if so, the details thereof; and
(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) The information is given in the Statement annexed.
(b) & (c) Requests have been received from the States of
Assam, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya
Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram for sanction of
additional Anganwadi Centres. However, in view of resource
constraints, the Integrated Child Development Services
(ICDS) Scheme has been continued in the X Plan with no
expansion activities.
(d), (e) & (f) Yes, Sir. The Government has recently
increased the honoraria of Anganwadi Workers by Rs.500/- and
of Anganwadi Helpers by Rs.240/- per month, with effect from
1.4.2002.
