Question : RECOGNISATION OF FLYING DISC FEDERATION



(a) whether it is true that flying disc is a very popular sport in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of flying disc championship organized by the Flying Disc Federation in the country, State/UT-wise;

(d) whether Flying Disc sports in the country is recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), and

(e) if not, the steps taken by the Government to get recognition from the WFDF?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS(SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)

(a) & (b) Madam, flying disc is played in various parts of the country, but details in this regard including number of people who play the sport and the places where it is played are not available with the Ministry.

(c) Development and promotion of various disciplines of sport including organizing championships and maintaining the information of such championships is the responsibility of the relevant National Sports Federations (NSFs) which are autonomous in their functioning. The Government only supplements their efforts, inter-alia, by way of providing financial assistance for participation in international competitions abroad, holding international competitions in India, conducting national championships, purchase of equipments, conducting coaching camps, etc under the ‘Scheme of Assistance to NSFs’. Presently, no entity has been recognized as NSF for flying disc sport by Government of India.

(d) & (e) Madam, seeking recognition from an international sport body is the responsibility of the sports association / federation for the relevant sport in the country. As per the information given on the website of World Flying Disc federation (www.wfdf.org), Ultimate Players Association of India has been listed as one of its member.
