Question : CONSUMER COURTS



(a) whether the Supreme Court, on January 8, 2001 have sought information from State Governments about the steps, they have taken to revitalise `consumer courts` in line with the Bagla Committee Report;

(b) if so, whether the State Governments have furnished the said information so far; and

(c) if so, the State-wise details of information provided and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) : In its interim order dated 8.1.2001 on Special Leave to Appeal (Civil) No. 6928/1999, the Hon`ble Supreme Court asked the State Government of Uttar Pradesh to submit an affidavit spelling out the action, if any, taken on the Bagla Committee Report.

(b) & (c): As informed by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh, they have furnished the required information through an affidavit to the Hon`ble Supreme Court explaining their difficulties in creating additional posts as per the recommendations of the Bagla Committee Report.
