Question : NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA



(a) whether Tamil Nadu has not been provided with the Navodaya Vidyalayas;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) the number of more Navodaya Vidyalayas proposed to be opened in the country during the Ninth Five Year Plan, State- wise; and

(d) the amount earmarked for the purpose?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. The scheme of Navodaya Vidyalayas has not yet been accepted by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

(c) & (d): It is endeavoured to established 94 JNVs during the 9th Plan period bringing the total coverage to 482 districts by opening JNVs, one in each district of the country, subject to receipt of suitable offers of land and temporary accommodation as per norms, from the concerned State Government. The State-wise detail of uncovered districts, including newly created districts, is given at Annexure. An amount of Rs. 243.15 Crores has been earmarked for this purpose during the Ninth Five Year Plan.
