Question : SCALES OF TRANSLATOR-CUM-ANNOUNCER



(a) the number of posts of Translator-cum-Announcer are existing in Indian as well as foreign languages in All India Radio;

(b) how many posts out of this are vacant, language-wise;

(c) whether there is disparity in the pay scales of Translator-cum-Announcer of Indian languages and that of foreign languages; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the remedial measures taken in this regard?

(a) : There are 89(7 in Indian language and 82 in foreign languages) sanctioned posts of Translator-cum- Announcer in External Services Division of All India Radio. Besides, 6 temporary posts under Software Programme have been sanctioned in the grade of Translator-cum- Announcer in External Services Division.

(b) Language-wise vacancy position is given below:-

 i)	Arabic	1	vii)	Pushtu	3	ii)	Burmese	3	viii)	Swahili	3	iii)	Chinese	2	ix)	Thai	1	iv)	French	2	x)	Tibetan	4	v)	Indonesian	1	xi)	Baluchi	2	vi)	Nepali 

(c) : Yes, Sir.

(d) Translator-cum- Announcers of Indian Languages are in the pay scale of Rs.6,500- 10,500/- while Translator-cum- Announcers (Indian National) of foreign language are in the pay scale of Rs.8,000-12,500/-. Since higher pay scale to Translator-cum- Announcers(Foreign Language) has been based on functional justification, question of any remedial action does not arise.
