(a) : As per Census, 2001, there are 44,080 villages, spread across 25 States and 2 UTs, having more
than 50% Scheduled Caste (SC) population. It was decided to cover only 1,000 of such villages in the
pilot phase, under the Scheme. Presently the pilot scheme is being implemented in five States â one
each from five regions of the country, selected as per following criteria:

5 North-East Assam 100 State with highest no of villages with > 50 % SC population in the region
# Uttar Pradesh (having highest no. of villages with > 50% SC population did not agree to implement the
Scheme. So it was replaced by Himachal Pradesh in February 2011.
(b) : The details of the Central Assistance sanctioned and released and utilized under the
Yojana, State-wise are as under:

(c) The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment has entrusted the task of comprehensive evaluation
of the Scheme to Programme Evaluation Organization (PEO) of Planning Commission. National Institute
of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad was requested to conduct a limited evaluation of the Scheme
in 15 PMAGY villages in Assam, Bihar and Rajasthan. The report has inter alia, stated that substantial
progress has been achieved in creation of physical infrastructure in most of these villages.
(d) & (e) : Final decision in this regard has not been taken.
